We have learned that Family Dollar, Dollar Tree’s acquired chain that sells merchandise over $1, is shutting down 390 stores due to under-performing sales.
As of right now, the store’s website is still up and running, but here’s everything else you need to know about what’s going on:
Is Family Dollar/Dollar Tree going out of business?
With the shutdown, 1,000 Family Dollar locations will be renovated while approximately 200 stores will be rebranded to be Dollar Trees, but that’s not all. “We plan to open 350 new Dollar Tree and 200 new Family Dollar stores,” Kayleigh Painter, Manager of Investor and Media Relations at Dollar Tree, Inc, tells GoodHousekeeping.com.
So don’t worry, your one-stop shop for all things $1 will still be around.
Is my Family Dollar location closing?
A list of stores that will close have not been released, but we will definitely keep you updated once we get word.
What will the new locations offer?
Even if your closest Family Dollar closes, you might want to take a trip to the second closest one. New Family Dollar locations will sell alcohol, according to CNBC, so your Friday night shopping run just got more interesting. They will also include a new selection of $1 Dollar Tree merchandise, and a some locations will get expanded freezer and cooler sections!
